The Weaver Bird's Careful Home

Panchatantra Stories · 1 min read

A weaver bird spent weeks meticulously constructing his intricate, hanging nest, weaving each strand of grass carefully to create a strong, waterproof shelter that could withstand heavy wind and rain. A monkey, watching from a nearby branch, mocked him relentlessly for taking so long over what the monkey considered unnecessary fussiness, boasting that he himself needed no home at all, sleeping wherever he pleased in the open branches.

"Building something that lasts takes patience I clearly don't need," the monkey scoffed, swinging carelessly from branch to branch while the bird continued his careful work without responding to the taunts.

When a fierce storm swept through the forest that same season, the weaver bird's nest held firm, sheltering him and his chicks completely dry and safe through the entire night. The monkey, having no shelter at all, was left exposed and miserable in the open branches, soaked and shivering until dawn. When the storm passed, the humbled monkey asked, with newfound respect, whether the bird might teach him to build something similar — understanding at last that the patience he'd mocked had been preparation, not fussiness.

Moral of the story

Patience spent building something lasting can look like fussiness — until the storm arrives.
