The Six Servants and the Impossible Tasks

World Fairy Tales · 1 min read

A powerful sorceress-princess, uninterested in marriage, had devised a cruel system to discourage suitors: any man who wished to win her hand had to complete three impossible tasks she would set, or forfeit his life for the attempt, a fate that had already claimed many overconfident princes before.

A young prince traveling toward her castle gathered an unusual group of companions along his journey, each possessing one strange, specific gift: a man with hearing so acute he could detect sounds from miles away, one whose eyesight could spot the smallest object at any distance, one of impossible physical strength, one whose breath alone could freeze anything solid, one with legs so long he covered vast distances in a single stride, and one who could see clearly in absolute darkness.

When the princess set her first task — retrieving a ring she'd thrown into the sea — the keen-eyed servant spotted it from the shore and the impossibly strong one retrieved it instantly. Her second task, providing an impossible feast for three hundred guests overnight, was solved through the long-legged servant's ability to gather ingredients from distant kingdoms within hours. Her third and cruelest task, surviving inside a room heated to a killing temperature, was solved when the ice-breathed servant simply cooled the entire chamber before the prince ever entered. Each task, seemingly impossible for any one person alone, fell easily to a team whose combined, specific gifts covered exactly what the situation required, and the prince, humbled by how little of the actual success had been his alone, married the astonished princess and ruled generously alongside the six companions who had truly earned the victory together.

Moral of the story
