The Frogs Who Wanted a King
Panchatantra Stories · 1 min read
A colony of frogs in a pond grew restless, complaining that they had no king to bring them order and glory. They prayed loudly to the heavens until, in answer, a great wooden log came crashing down into their pond.
At first they were terrified of the splash, but when the log simply floated silently, they grew bold, climbed onto it, and mocked it for being such a useless, do-nothing king. They prayed again, this time for a "real" king, and this time a heron descended into the pond.
The heron ruled decisively — by eating a frog for breakfast every single day. Too late, the frogs understood: their harmless log had been the finest king they could have asked for, and their own restlessness had brought them exactly the ruler they deserved.
