Reducing Popup Fatigue While Still Capturing Leads

The fastest way to make a visitor leave is a popup that fires the instant the page loads. Behavior-based triggers — exit intent, a scroll-depth threshold, or time-on-page — target people who've already shown some interest, which converts better and annoys fewer people.

Frequency capping matters as much as targeting: showing the same offer to the same visitor on every page load trains them to close it without reading. A simple per-session or per-day cap fixes most of the complaints popups get.

The offer itself should match the page. A generic newsletter popup on a high-intent pricing page usually underperforms a popup offering to answer pricing questions directly.
