Why People Abandon Forms Halfway Through

Long forms don't necessarily convert worse than short ones — unpredictable forms do. If a visitor can't estimate how much is left, they're more likely to give up partway through, even on a form that's objectively short.

Asking for sensitive information early (phone number before the visitor has decided the offer is worth it) is a common drop-off point. Ordering fields from low-commitment to high-commitment usually outperforms alphabetical or database-column order.

File uploads and multi-select fields are disproportionately abandoned on mobile. If a form must include one, putting it last means you still capture a submission if the visitor abandons only that field.
